Lil Wayne, "Rebirth"

Lil Wayne's long-awaited new album, "Rebirth," is his first full-length since the multimillion-selling "Tha Carter III" in 2008, and the rapper's first attempt at recording a true rock record. Tame punk-driven guitar licks may eclipse hard basslines, but familiarity is found in Wayne's willingness to be lyrically venturesome. The adolescent angst of lead single "Prom Queen" is just one of his rudimentary musings, and on the almost suicidal-sounding "Runnin' " (featuring newcomer Shanell), he despairingly sings, "I'm runnin' out of time, I'm runnin' out of space/Feel like I'm runnin' round, but I'm runnin' in place." "Rebirth" also finds Wayne exploring speedy pop-punk rhythms ("The Price Is Wrong"), but he still favors the balancing act between Auto-Tuned wailing and unhinged MC'ing ("Paradice"). Although the cleaner melodies and pop polish seem to mute the rapper's stream-of-consciousness salvos, he still shines on "Drop the World," featuring Eminem.-Devin Chanda

'Somos El Mundo' Video Premieres, Stars Pitbull, Shakira, Juanes, David Archuleta, Daddy Yankee

Just when Chile's 8.8 earthquake has dominated headlines, "Somos el Mundo," -- the Spanish-langage version of "We Are the World" -- premiered its video on the Univision network's "El Show de Cristina" last night with dozens of Latin artists bringing their biggest power vocals to the benefit of Haiti's earthquake victims. "Somos el Mundo" was recorded Feb. 19 in Miami...
Colombian singer Juanes opened the song, followed by Ricky Martin, whose foundation has partnered with Habitat for Humanity on shelter-building efforts in Haiti. Shakira sang the first chorus, while Pitbull, the Black Eyed Peas' Taboo and Daddy Yankee performed the rap section of the song. "American Idol" alum David Archuleta sang his parts in Spanish.

The backing track was identical to the one produced by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, but the first-ever Spanish version was translated by Emilio and Gloria Estefan, and the recording was paid for by Univision. "Somos el Mundo" was the top Latin song on iTunes this morning; its proceeds will benefit the We Are the World Foundation's Haiti relief efforts.

Lil Wayne Joins Jay-Z Onstage, Court Date Postponed Again

Lil Wayne didn't go to prison yesterday due to a courthouse fire, but that didn't stop the rapper from "Goin' In" during Young Jeezy's set at Jay-Z's "Blueprint 3" tour stop in New York last night (March 2). According to MTV, his sentencing has been rescheduled for Monday (Mar. 8).

Peas Persist on Hot 100 with "Imma Be"

The Black Eyed Peas hold at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week with "Imma Be." The track returns to the top of Digital Songs for a second frame after abdicating the lead spot to "We Are The World 25: For Haiti" by Artists for Haiti for the past two weeks.
